He- He's just a strange bird. He doesn't judge people. And... He listens to everything you have to say. He's like a safe place that I can always go to, if I ever need it. Lorainne: Soulmates. I love it. Bobbie: (describing Carly to Dr. Evans) You know, she's very smart. And I don't mean book learning. Although she's really quite well-spoken, don't you think? For somebody with just a high school education. She probably didn't pay all that much attention in school. And then I'll bet she dragged out all those old textbooks later when she realized she was going to need that spelling and the grammar to get along in life. In some way, I think she's a lot like me. You know, because she understands things about people. About their hearts. And, she's no pushover. I mean, she wants things the way she wants them. Don't ask her to compromise. Don't ask her to go with the flow. The flow better damn well go with her. Bobbie: (telling Laura about the keychain) Jason gave her this. She told me about it once. She wanted to give him a Christmas present. And she didn't know what to get him, cuz - he doesn't need anything. She got him a keychain, with his name on it. And then, about a year later, when she showed up on his doorstep, pregnant, with Michael, he gave her a key to his penthouse on a keychain, with her name on it. Her real name. Caroline. She said that Jason gave her the first place she ever truly belonged. The first place she ever felt really safe. And she saved that keychain, to remind her. She said it was the most precious thing she'd ever been given. Bobbie(trying to talk Carly out of marrying AJ): Look, I know how much money means to you and how taken you are with all of this. But there are other things. When you were in the hospital, giving birth to Michael. You were about as close to death as you have ever been. And you knew it. I think I've told you this before - that's when the truth really comes out. And your truth was about your son. You begged me to take protect him. Not so you could use him as a pawn in a battle. But because you loved him with a mother's love. And as soon as your crisis had passed, you were back to having doubts. One thing I'll say about you, no one underestimates you as much as you do. It's tragic, how incapable you think you are to love. And to be loved. Tragic because it makes you do things like this, honey. Which is to settle. Scene - Carly and Jason in the morgue at GH, where Dorman was murdered) Carly: Okay, we're gonna do this your way. But I'm warning you, Jason. If this doesn't go smooth for you, I am gonna lie through my teeth. I will blame it on someone else. I will do anything. I don't care what you did, I don't care who you work for. I used to say Tony was the best thing that ever happened to me but he didn't want the title. So you're it, like it or not. Jason: You know, I used to say that I wasn't a little kid. But there was so much I didn't understand ... I kinda liked it that you didn't know about the accident. You thought I was a little strange, but you never ever pitied me. You didn't feel obligated to teach me things. And I didn't feel obligated to learn. But I did. I learned to be careful who you pick up in bars because it might change your whole life. Jason: But Carly just took me the way I was. And that's how I've always taken her. Yes, she is a liar. She is a manipulator. And every so often she does something to wreck her life. But she is also brave and strong, and she is not afraid to fight. And a couple of times I really needed her, she came through. Jason: You got a good mom, Michael. But she- Michael: Dad. Jason: Yeah. She does not think like other people. Now, look. When you- When you learn to cross the street, you're going to do it like I do. Michael: Ba-ba. Jason: Ba-ba, yes. You're going to do it like I do. You're going to start at one curb, and you're going to walk to the other. Now, see, your mom would rather climb a tree, set it on fire, and hope the firemen would come and carry her across. That's what she calls a plan. Bobbie: If you love Carly, tell her. I'm not going to pretend to know your heart. But I know Carly. And I love her. Ask yourself if you want a life with her. And if you do, tell her. Jason: I'm not really good at imagining things but I can't imagine my life without Carly. Bobbie: Well, then. No matter how hard it is, the two of you should find a way to be together. Jason to Sonny: I can't even look at this room... without seeing the people who aren't here. And thinking about the life I used to have. You know, when Carly showed up, yeah, she brought all of her problems. But she brought me a life. Jason: What would I be, your boy on the side? Maria: The side of what? Jason: You know what? I think that's what I said when somebody called me that, once. Maria: Who? Jason: Who... I wasn't even supposed to know her name. The only place we were supposed to know each other was in bed. Maria: Then what happened? Jason: She changed my life. She fought with me. She fought for me. Spent my money. Threatened to paint everything in the house. She was crazy. And I left. But she loved me. Maria: And you miss her. Jason: And I miss her. Jason: Usually, people leave me. I stay, I get mad. I take care of things. This time I did it. I left. Which is good. Otherwise I would never know that leaving doesn't fix anything. It just makes it worse. Because... The people you love may need you, and you're not there. Maria: What will happen if you go? Jason: Probably nothing. She's married to someone else now. And her, uh- (pauses, sighs, and looks down) Her baby has another fatherThey may never need me again. But I should be there just in case. Maria: Maybe you need her. Did that never occur to you? ... Of course not, she screwed up your life. Jason: Yeah. Maria: Well, look at you. Maybe... You need her to screw it up some more. Carly to Jason: Except for Michael, you're the most important person in my whole life. You're the only who's never lied to me. You're the only one who doesn't want to change me into something, anything. I can just be myself with you. Jason to Carly: You know, when you showed up that night, it was raining. You were so scared. You needed me. You asked me to take care of Michael, and that's... That's when my life started. A life I thought I could never have, more than anything I could ever imagine. (pause) It was all because of you. It's true, Carly, you are a lot of trouble. (she laughs) You make things more complicated than they are, but... You showed me new things. You gave me a year and a half that no one can take away. Nothing will change that. Carly: In my whole life, nobody's ever defended me the way that you did with Sonny tonight. And I know- I know what it means for you to go against him. You always said that you never would. But - you know, you did. And you didn't even hesitate. Jason: I just told the truth. Carly: I know. Do you understand that you believing in me is... It's the best thing that's ever happened to me. Carly: And that should be enough, shouldn't it? I mean, if my child is happy, then I should just let go of the things that I can't have? How it feels to play pool and slow dance to the juke box... Or watch somebody come out of the water, holding my baby and know that I gave him... the best...I'm not making sense, am I?... Lila: My dear, I understand you perfectly. Carly: You know what? I think you do. And you don't even seem to hate me for it. You're like him. You know? I mean, you're really like him. You're a great listener with a beautiful heart. You would never do half of the things I have done in a million years. But you seem to know... You seem to understand why I did them. I'm more like Edward, you know. Where as I've always got some sort of a scheme or a plan. Or... I'm always... gearing up to fight - over something. That half the time, once I get it, I don't even want it... (pause) He's hurt you a lot, hasn't he? Edward? Lila: From time to time. Carly: Well you know what? He didn't mean to. He just- He just knows that you're so much stronger than he is. And so much more true to yourself. That he made a mistake in thinking that if you could understand what he did, that you couldn't be hurt by it. See the thing is... You forgave Edward, and the two of you got to try again. But what if you never got that chance? What if love never came back, and all you were left with was this house? And the jewlery, and the little tiny bit of hope that maybe you were doing the right thing for your child? Could you stay? Could you be happy? Lila: I can't answer you that, dear. You see, I'm married to the man I love. Jason: Michael loves the ocean. You know, the first time he went- The first time I took him in the water was in Florida. After Carly's other mother, Virginia, died. We went down there to close down the house. There wasn't really much that Carly wanted and just being there made her sad. So we went to the ocean. Oh, man. Michael was really little. But Carly let me take him in the water. That kid was not afraid, Sonny. He was laughing the whole time. You know, he loved that feeling of half-floating with my hands around him... We got out of the water and Carly was there waiting for us. She wrapped Michael in a towel, dried him off... And we just sat there. And watched him fall asleep. That's what Carly was trying to get back, you know? The three of us, together. Wow, it hurts to lose it. Carly: You know what I do? I go down to the docks and I look at your warehouse being rebuilt. And I think - 'You know what? That looks like our future. That looks like all the things that you and me and Michael are gonna have together.' Don't you believe me, when I say, we're gonna be a family, Jase. Jason: We already are a family. We just couldn't find a way to stay together. Carly: Well, I have. And we can. And I know. (Scene - Carly and Tony in the car, she just heard about the shootout at Luke's over the radio) Tony: You're not thinking straight right now. We are in the middle of nowhere. It's 25 degrees out, there's ice on the road. Don't you care anything about the baby? Carly: Of course I care about the baby, Tony. But the baby is fine, safe inside me. But Jason could be lying in a pool of blood with a bullet in him! Tony: So what? He's got family, he's got hired men to take care of him. Why does he need you? Carly: Because he hates doctors. And he hates hospitals. And he just so happens to be the best friend that I have ever had. Now if I were lying in a pool of blood with a bullet in me, you'd be busy. And Jason would be the first person I saw, if and when I opened my eyes. And then he would take care of me. And every second that you waste keeps me from doing the same thing for him that he has always done for me without thinking twice! Tony: Get in the car. Carly: If you won't take me, I swear I will walk. Tony: I don't care where you end up right now, just get in the car. Get in the car. Jason: Sometimes you can wait too long for something. Or someone. You think they're going to be there when you get back, but they're not. And what you wanted to say? Doesn't matter anymore. Carly: You know what I was thinking? Jason: Yes, I do. Carly: No you don't. Jason: Yes I do. Carly: I bet you ten thousand dollars that you don't. Jason: Alright, come on. Carly: I was thinking- Carly & Jason: We should have phones like that! Carly: Shut up! Jason: No, forget it. Jason: But nothing Carly does really surprises me. I mean, I wouldn't have done any of the stuff she's done. But I'm real clear on why she did them. Bobbie: You know, I came here to try and ask you to be patient with Carly because I'm her mother. And I thought I could explain away this stunt she pulled. And instead, you're explaining my daughter to me. I wish I could accept her the way you do, Jason. Jason: You need me to say you're valuable? Because you know you are. I know that I can count on you. Even though you drive me crazy. Carly: I don't mean to drive you crazy. Jason: Yes you do. Carly: That's all the emotion you can muster up? You like me? Jason: Listen. Listen to me. I like having you around. I like seeing you every day. I even like having your- your junk all over the house. Carly: You like having Michael here and I come with the package, so you tolerate me. Jason: No. No, I don't- Look, before you and Michael came, I slept on a couch. I ate standing over a sink. I even showered in the guest bathroom so I wouldn't mess anything up in the big one upstairs. You and Michael brought life into this house. You turned it into a home. You made my life better. Carly: You know I love you. Jason: I know...I love you too. Carly: Could you say it? Just once? Jason: I love you. Carly: Well, look at that. Lightning didn't strike you down. The sky didn't fall. You said you love me. And you do cause you said you do. Coleman: Oh. Well, it looks like you’ll be drinking alone because you’ve—you’ve been stood up. Huh. Carly: He’ll show. Coleman: Well, you sound awful sure about that. Carly: Just sure of him. Coleman: Yeah? [Jason walks into Jake’s] Carly: She has this boy that she likes, and she’s lied to get him, and she’s afraid that the truth is going to come out and she’s going to lose him. But I didn’t lose you, and you stood by me, so here comes the question—have you ever asked yourself why? [Jason sighs.] Jason: No. Carly: Well, I am because I really need to know. [Jason leans forward on the table] Jason: I guess because you would never go away. [Carly laughs]Really. I mean, when I got mad at you or you walked out on me, you would—you know, you would always show up again. Most of the time you needed something. But sometimes I—I really needed you. You know, all the other stuff—the lies, the crazy plans, everything else—that’s just something I had to put up with. But when things are bad, Carly, the way you stand up, the way you don’t quit on me or anyone else you love, that’s—that’s what I get in return. Carly: You know, there are times when I look at you and I think that we should be together. Then I think, no, because I need this. I can’t lose you. So I’m going to settle for just being your friend. [Jason laughs] I just hope LuLu can find someone who gives her half of what you’ve given me. Jason: That’s a poor guy. Carly: You were lucky to have me. [Jason looks like he’s thinking it over.] Jason: Yeah, I know. [Carly laughs.] | |
